Senior Shareholders
Steve Bolton and Todd VanNispen are the largest shareholders of Pillar Panama, a real-estate marketing, development, and construction firm. They hold board positions and are an integral part of the overall strategic direction of the firm and its subsidiaries. Steve and Todd's partner's group, Island Ventures, is the majority owner of Pillar Panama and has been critical to the overall recent restructuring of Pillar and its significant balance sheet improvement in 2008. They have deep entrepreneurial roots seeded in several business ventures over their 15+ year partnership including several successful ventures in the restaurant and hospitality, commercial real-estate, franchising, and construction industries.Steve and Todd are seasoned leaders with unparalleled business acumen and savvy with an extensive track record of success in all efforts across many different business enterprises. Most notably, they are owners and leaders of a large franchise firm, large restaurant ownership group, and a midsized construction company. This construction firm's attention to quality and service has won it many awards including Contractor of the Year in 2008 for Remodelers in Minnesota. Prolific business instincts, client and service focus, and superior consensus building skills are just some of the team's more characteristic qualities. They have a knack for choosing the right business ventures and making them successful by bringing the right people together behind a shared vision.
The team's involvement in Red Frog started as clients, owning several properties including villas, condos, and a hotel site. As the global economic market began to turn and Red Frog began its complex re-structuring process, they decided to convert most of their investments into equity in Pillar and invest significant new capital to help re-vitalize the project. In addition, Steve and Todd have invested their valuable time into the overall leadership and direction of the company.
JOE HALEY
CEO/Partner
Joe Haley is a Partner and the President of Pillar Panama, a real-estate marketing, development, and construction firm. Joe leads the strategic planning and execution of all Pillar Panama's initiatives and operations. Joe has extensive experience in the development and construction industry, with 13 years of involvement across many facets of the business. He is also the President of Oasis Investments, a real-estate investment firm, and serves on the board of a landowners association.Joe is an accomplished and versatile executive with proven success in senior management. Joe has held roles in a $5 billion corporation, a $10 million start up venture, and a $20 million privately held organization. Strong leadership, strategic planning, and analytical skills are some of his key attributes. Joe has also demonstrated the ability to build and lead high performance teams that consistently deliver quantum results in sales, market share, and client satisfaction. Prior to joining Pillar Panama, he served as the Vice President of Sales for Esurg Corporation, a successful start up distribution Company.
Joe conducted research for over 8 years in the islands of the Caribbean to find the ideal location for the next hot spot, which he found to be in the islands of Panama. With his expertise in contract negotiations, property acquisition, partner creation, complex resort management, designing global organizational vision, strategic analysis, and orchestrating successful implementations, he is indeed an asset to the team.
Joe received his Master's Degree in Leadership at Skidmore College and a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and International Business at Miami University.
KEVIN CANARY
Chief Operating Officer/Partner
Kevin joined the Pillar Group in September 2006 as a Development Executive. There he worked across all business functions in a matrix management role, including spearheading the creation of the End Financing Company, Pillar Solutions. He was then promoted into the role of Director of Strategy and Asset Management where he led the creation and oversight of the Asset Management Division, as well as leading the interface and negotiation with all consultant and 3rd party management groups including marina, spa, and hotel. As Chief Operating Officer, Kevin oversees the general management, construction, design, and development, resort operations, end financing, asset management, and administration of the firm. He splits his time between Bocas and Panama City, where he interfaces with the National government, local developers, promoters, bankers, contractors, vendors, and consultants.Prior to Pillar, Kevin worked for NVR, a Fortune 500 Company and Top-10 Homebuilder in the United States. There he played a key role in the company's Land Acquisition Group, covering the Northern Virginia region/Washington, DC Market. He began his career with the Operations group, holding roles of Project Manager, as well as Production Supervisor with the Ryan Homes Company in Cleveland, Ohio.
Kevin attended the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH, where he studied Business Management. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and its Young Leaders Group, as well as Panama's American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including its newly created Environmental Committee. He also sits on the board of directors and plays a key role in the business development of Energy Management Solutions (EMS), S.A., a US-based Energy Management company which has recently expanded into the Central/South America marketplace.
